People,
I am preparing an article for NY times explaining our sufferings! Please contribute your thoughts.
1. What is America losing because of our prolonged wait for Green Cards?
2. How people who have green cards are contributing to the country as a whole ?
3. What if the whole green card process takes less than 3 years ?
Few obvious things are we would have bought a house, gone up in our carrier ladder, spend more and contribute to the economy, our spouse could have started working etc....
I am looking for thoughts and experience other than the above things.
USA is made by illegal immigrants (over 13 millions) and bonded labors (H1B - GC).
Losses suffered by illegal immigrants and H1B-GC people fuels US economy (or at least contributes to that). My contributions so far might have been above half a millions. Indirect beneficiaris are top most companies.
You may get some valuable inputs from http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19766 although I did not fully endorse the thread:
Good observation.
It will be breaking more than making - it will be like this news: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Is_Hindu_marriage_law_breaking_homes/articleshow/3154827.cms
America is not loosing by delaying any process of streamlining any illegal immigrants or H1B-GC process.

That is $5 billion not %50 billion. This number makes no difference, NYSE trades shock values more then that amount per second.
Thank you..I corrected it. It might make no difference, but when you think about US banks begging for $25 billions each just a few months ago, I dont think you will have the same feeling.

I think they have to be current when they get an appointment or something like that. I am pretty sure that they accounted those 18k as CP numbers
See what I was saying. They are not supposed to grant CP appointments and approvals in July per the regulations. They have decided to bend the rules to approve the currently pending 485s and CPs. They came up with this lame excuse that since the visas were already shipped out to the consular posts ................yada yada. Point is as I said they can't do 18K CP applicatrions in a day at the consulates the way they seem to have done for the 485s. Even this I am not sure.
I doubt whether they have sent out all 60K 485 approvals either, they probably will in the course of the next month or thereabouts.
I'll say it again, they want 485s out but they don't want them in for whatever reason. It is getting clearer.

The senator is missing it or dodging it - it clearly means one thing -we are invisible as constituents. We are being taken for a ride only because we do not speak up or go meet our lawmakers. They do not see us as ordinary constituents having the same issues as their other constituents. The whole human -angle is missing.
We have to go meet our lawmakers and explain to them our part of the story/ They need to be told and made aware that we live in their constituencies and our grievances are genuine and need to be addressed.
And although this particular bill does not affect people that are here already.. Beware!! the noose is tightening- the next on the chopping block is EB Immigrants. To answer your question: Indian companies in India or Indian politicians complaining will not do much impact. After passing this bill politicians will cosy up and say good things to rebuild relations. The real impact can happen if Indians in New York state who can vote stand up against such laws. Same goes for the Desi companies who have tried to raise the voice against USCIS memo. They lack grassroots advocacy and support. Their Indian US citizen friends are busy organizing Diwali melas and Shahrukh Khan stage shows. Immigration voice can be extremely successful if politicians see us as an immigrant lobby. Just like they see Jewish lobby or Hispanic lobby. This is why participation of IV greencard members and citizen friends is important to advocate for changes that helps the immigrant community. I this case too, IV community should not turn a blind eye to what happens around us. Just because we do not work for such companies or we already have EAD does not mean we do not see beyond the headline of this issue. We spend more time analyzing , over analyzing, predicting and tracking rather than actively understanding the politics of issues that are causing all the problems we are facing. To some extent this law passed because Indians in USA did not care due to their narrow outlook and priorities in politics.

As Ron Gotcher (imminfo.com) predicted Jobs bill passed at Senate.
Senate Votes 70-28 to Approve $15 Billion Jobs Bill
Though modest in scope, the bill was hailed by Democrats as evidence that the parties could work together.

What can we do, so that USCIS does not really issue that many FS category visas during 2007 - 2008?
It is so confusing that I do not know how to explain the whole thing.
Here is a small sample.
In 2002 all the EB visas were issued(174,968). However, there were 31,532 unused family preference visas, so the limit for 2003 was 171,532 (140,000 + 31,532).
Guess what, in 2003 they only approved 82,137 EB visas, so they ended up with 88,482 unused EB visas

Hi guys,
Just waiting for my wife to receive her SSN number with her EAD card.
How long will it take to get the registration of new company? Assuming i start it tomorrow.
Do you have to transfer the domain names, account details with web hosting company to my wife's name?
Or let them be under by name and just make the LLC under my wife's name and let her run the show?
All the accounts that are responsible to make/receive payments should be under my wife's name or just be under this new LLC name?
Thanks
sri

Thanks sy. I fully agree it's the agent we deal with. My BOA loan coordinator is extremely stubborn & doesn't have any clue regarding immigration. From day 1 she is stuck on unexpired I-94 & till today she asks me to furnish that. Is it possible that I can contact you or any of your friends through email / phone & discuss to check where I am going wrong. I can furnish my contact details if needed.
I am not how comfortable my friends would be, but, you can certainly contact me for any help/details you may want. sumanthyenduri@gmail.com is my email address.

pardon my ignorance. But since you already applied for 485, it means you will get GC in april 2009(if pd becomes dec 2005) ?
Yes and No. If the PD stays at (let's say) December 15, 2005 and during that time the officer is able to review my file and request a visa number from the DOS then I will get the green card BUT if during this process the PD moves back (let's say December 14, 2005) then I will have to wait for it to be current again for me (i.e. December 15, 2005).

All are exagerated values. Unless we have the correct values, these predictions are just waste of time and mind disturbing.:(
Thank you!! That's true exagerated values. With concurrent filing you can travel in and out of the country, you can work etc. Now we are moaning that the greencard is going to take forever! Wow! Be happy with this situation (file your i-140 & i-485) and stop these pessimistic views!

Why is everyone jumping on Dard-E-Disco?
Come on guys chill.
I have responded on this thread several times yesterday and reading through Dard-E-Disco's and everyone's comments, he's got a very valid point.
We can't just poke around an established government agency because we feel they are not doing their job properly. I am sure they are doing their job based on policies, and their policies may seem not to favor everyone.
They don't just make decisions on their own.
The structure inside USCIS could be very complex. And just like any government agency, you just cannot change things anytime.
Unfortunately, it could be affecting our lives but by voicing our concerns through proper venues like the IV forums is the way to go.
We can shout, we can scream, and join protest and forums, but that's all we can really do.
This is their country and we are guest here, and we have to respect whatever policies or laws they have because they gave us the opportunity to work and live here, and hopefully a chance to become permanent residents of this country, and in the futre become citizens.
For me, I have to thank them for this opportunity, although at times it is very frustrating.
Chill and Cheers

I dont deal with junks...when you are so mean to spend a penny for your parents, every one knows how much you would contributed for IV.
I never said, I won't spend a penny for parents. What I said is, and you can go back to my post, is you should not send money to your parents to "support" them when your spouse is not willing to. Now I do apologize for how I actually said, since its misinterpreted, but again, if someones parents had money requirements, then they should make it clear at the time of "arranging" the marriage, not push it under the rug after marriage. And in this situation (pushing things under the rug), if your spouse does not agree to sending large sums of money continuously, then I don't find fault with her.
And you kiddo , you are not even married. So get married, and after 6-7 years of married life, and 1-2 kids in school, tell me your perspective.

I sincerely hope that your interpretation is correct!
For all those who are upset with the House hearing, please take it easy. Please do not expect the hearing to discuss the details of each and every GC applicant's case. The objective of the hearing was to bring the folks involved in visa bulletins and GC processing, and make them all publically say and agree that Lofgren-Sensenbrenner bill will not flood the country with new people on the borders but at the same time since the federal agencies did not do their job properly, so it would make sense to recapture the visa numbers, and that's it.
I think that this objective was achieved pretty handsomely without much opposition. So everybody was on the same page, other than Ranking member King, whose job in such meetings is to oppose whatever the committee chair is proposing. Rep. King did not have much to say as Rep. Sensenbrenner has co-sponsored the bill. Noticeably, Rep. Gutierrez supported the bill, which means Hispanic Caucus may not oppose it either, hopefully. So it was all good.
